1 Sep 2008 - Our Youngest Ever Skipper
On a rare visit to the suburbs of Bristol, Kingswood, like England, benefited from the "K.P.factor" as the 16 year old effervescent Jay Simmons made his debut as skipper against Staple Hill.
Using his bowlers in short spells he conjured wickets with every change, backing them up with a catch off a sizzling off-drive. Steve Moran (1 for 12), Andy Smith (2 for 24), Vince Taylor (2 for 11), Barry Morgan (3 for 8) and Ben Foxwell (2 for 9) did the damage as Staple Hill teetered to 100 all out, greatly helped by the 30 from wides and no-balls; all part of the plan.
On a none too easy pitch runs did not come readily but a measured 40* from Richard Wilding, 22 from Barry Morgan, 10 from Vince Taylor and a fitting 14* from skipper Jay brought him and his team a six wicket victory.
