1 Aug 2008 - vs Send Occasionals
Fine knocks by two Send Occasionals veterans pulled off a seven wicket win at Kingswood.
Put in to bat, Kingswood`s openers ambled to 67 off too many overs until 65 year old Rod Alexander (25) took on the agility of 14 year old Ben Phillips and was suitably run out. Ben`s leg spin bamboozled Barry Morgan but brother Kevin accelerated to 57 before misreading Andy Goetzee`s flighted full toss. The classic elegance of David Hatton (33*) and Ben Foxwell (20), and the belligerence of Angus McCubbin (20* from 11 balls) took Kingswood to a respectable, but no more than that, 187 for 4.
The early dismissal of Send`s Jonty Cooke to a diving catch by McCubbin off Jay Simmons, may have lulled Kingswood. However, a Captain`s knock by Sir Les Patterson and cultured brutality from equally veteran partner, Rob Phillips, (39) took the Tourists to 94, before Rob shouldered arms to Barry Morgan`s off-cutter. Les found an able ally in Rob`s son Ben in a 50 partnership. It took another young Ben, Foxwell, to remove Phillips Junior with a tempting leg break for 18. By now Patterson was in full flow; his repeatedly swept and pulled fours, and powerful blows from Sir Richard Hadley (19) at the other end, took him to an unbeaten 68* and Send to a convincing win by seven wickets.
