29 Jun 2008 - Even Harty played
Defending a modest total at Selsley, Kingswood`s second string bowlers achieved personal bests and a 108 runs victory over their hosts.
Kingswood`s total of 168 was far short of the 327-5 at home against Selsley in early May. At 139-8 only Richard Wilding (35), Kevin Morgan (29) and Rod Alexander (26) had reached double figures. A lively and inventive 29 partnership for the ninth wicket between Ian Swann and Steve Moran gave some respectability.
Steve, the only front line bowler used, immediately took two wickets and was promptly removed from the attack. The occasional bowlers completed the job, some with career bests. Ben Guy took 1 for 5, Mike Wilding 1 for 1, Kevin Morgan, usually wearing the gloves, 5 for 11, one a Caught behind by Wilding Jr., and newcomer Ian Swann,(previous best: 26 for No wicket off two overs for Peru against Brazil in the 2004 South American Championship) 1 for 6, all giving Kingswood a comfortable victory.
The following is RA's note tto teh Gazette Sports Editor.
Rob,
The comment about Ian Swann is genuine. Working in Peru in 2004, with a two year residency qualification, he was hurriedly drafted into the Peruvian side because of the non-arrival of a plane load of their players. He says he scored 2* against Brazil but was less successful against Chile. He is Kingswood`s only current international.
