12 Jun 2008 - Pratt Cup vs Commoners
Two fine batting and bowling performances gave hosts,The Commoners, their first Pratt cup win over Kingswood for some time. 50 and 53 run partnerships in their first 11 overs was an ideal launch. Both stands featured excellent batting by 16 year old Alf Godden with 48. With him gone, his second partner, cousin Steve Godden, blasted on to 88*, whilst his five other partners scored just eight between them.
169-7 was a tough, but not impossible, challenge for a good Kingswood batting line up, which was encouraged by Alf Godden conceding 10 runs in his first over and still having the full six balls left to bowl. Fortunately for him, Kingswood skipper, Kevin Morgan, chipped one of these to point and the visitors` innings rarely threatened from then on. Barry Morgan (20) and Angus McCubbin (12) attemped but good seam bowling by Rich Runciman (3-18) and leg spin by Mark Treacher (4-18) got Kingswood deeper into the mire. Only Vince Taylor`s 51 helped the visitors to a far from challenging 114 all out as The Commoners romped home by 55 runs. In contrast with the tensity of their game elsewhere a week before was the nice touch by The Commoners in their recall of the apparently run-out Taylor, a good gesture in a well deserved win.
