8 Jun 2008 - vs Stratford Court

The game between Stratford Court and Kingswood could have gone either way at various points, but in the end was decisively won by one side`s 16 year olds.

Batting first, Kingswood`s first four dismissals totalled just 18, an appropriate figure for shots suitable only for adult viewing. At this stage Kingswood were not just the underdogs but, with three 16 year olds, perceivably the underpuppies. The rescue came in two partnerships; 41 from Rob Austen (44) and Ken Wood (7), unlucky in his run-out from a deflection from the studs of the bowler, and 68 from Vince Taylor ( 77*)  with the claymore and 16 year old Ben Foxwell (9) with the rapier. Only when Ben fancied the claymore did he perish. Contrasting entertainment from father and son Moran took Kingswood to a hitherto unlikely 199-8 at tea.

Again, Stratford seized the initiative, losing just one wicket, to student Jamie Moran, reaching 59 in the eighth over. All but the final wicket, caught by Jamie, involved the 16 year olds; three catches and a bowled to Foxwell, two wickets to Tom Devine, and one wicket and a catch to Jay Simmons, as the hosts were bundled out by the youngsters for 124, lagging 75 runs behind.
