4 May 2008 - Jamie outdoes his strike partner
A match which looked not to be on earllier in the day provided some grand entertainment. Ferocious batting at eight an over and a good all-round bowling attack gave Kingswood a thumping 238 run win against visitors Selsley and Rodborough.
Selsley skipper, Paul Ind, must have been delighted at his early dismissal of bludgeoning opener, Vince Taylor, for just eight, but less so as his eight overs went for 103. First Richard Wilding (47) and 16 year old Jamie Simmons (73) tore into the attack, Jamie`s score at a run a ball. being the highest by a 16 year old in the club`s history. Their dismissals and those of Ben Guy and Steve Moran might have heartened Selsley with just 10 overs to go, except for the arrival of Kevin Morgan and Angus McCubbin, scourges of Selsley`s attack in the past. They used the few overs brutally in an unbeaten partnership of 126, Kevin`s 97* coming off just 69 balls and Angus`s 51* off 34.
327-5 at tea looked more than useful, even more so as Steve Moran (1-24) and Jamie Simmons (3-9) reduced Selsley to 41-4. Jim Long, used sparingly in one over spells, and debutant Ian Swann kept Selsley in check before McCubbin`s ten year old son, Finlay, not so much a chip off the old block but the old block itself, skittled Buckland for a duck. With an excellent display with the gloves from the now not retirde Mike Wilding, the final grains of sand took little time to drain through the hour-glass, just four overs from Wilding (2-10) and three from Ben Guy (3-11) and Selsley were all out for 89, 238 short of their first victory over Kingswood.
